Delling It Up

Last weekend we jam packed our car with all the essentials and headed out into probably the worst weather we have had this winter so far.  For months we had been planning a get together with some friends in the Dells.  On the way there, we were reminiscing about the day when we used to complain about all the stuff we had to pack for our dog when we went on a weekend trip.  How silly we were back then.  With all of Conner's "stuff" we easily have quadrupled the amount of things jam packed into our car.  Once we made it to Wisconsin Dells, checked in, unpacked, and settled in we were finally able to relax.  We rented a 2 floor condo with some friends from college and their families.  It ended up being 8 adults and 4 kiddos all under the age of 2.  We flipped a coin for the Master Bedroom and by some miracle we won - so we had a fireplace in the room with us and a chair (which came in handy when Conner woke up at night).  It was a lot of fun catching up and hanging out with everyone.  Yes, I will admit, I had mixed emotions watching the kids all playing together, crawling and walking around the room while we held Conner.  But all that is brushed away when Conner smiles and shows he is having a good time :)  The indoor water parks were very nice.  Conner really enjoyed swimming.  We hit up the wave pool, the lazy river, and a regular pool.  The couple without kids were able to hit up the adult slides, but I was ok passing those up this time.  After a late night of playing cards after the kids went to sleep on Friday night, Saturday night showed our true age.... everyone sat up and watched American's Funniest Home Videos and called it an early night.  We must be getting old.  And.... the big news, Conner only threw up 3 times the whole weekend.  We have started a new, low dose, antibiotic that is supposed to help with the motility of his stomach which appears to be helping.  So we will keep our fingers crossed and see what happens.

Happy 2012 Everybody!

Due to things outside my control, things have been crazy busy at home so it has been awhile since I updated everyone.  Here's the down low..... followed by some much anticipated new pics!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

-I got a stander that helps me put weight through my legs, since I have no desire to do so myself.  I can stand in that thing for almost and hour, as long as my parents get that iPad thing to read me Dr. Seuss ABC's.
-My mom finished up her doctorate work and my dad is getting back to his masters stuff - he signed up for 2 classes this coming semester.
-We celebrated Christmas 3 times.  One time with the Servais Family (where we one by one got miserably sick), one with the Shays (where we stayed healthy), and one with just me, mom, dad, and toby. My mom had to work on Christmas Eve and Day so it was kinda weird.
-I have had 2 different double ear infections and have been crazy stuffy since the change in seasons, so I am having a tough time sleeping through the night and have been going to the doctor more than usual.
-I asked for my 2 front teeth for Christmas, cause my mom kept singing about it..... and guess what, I got what I wanted!
-I also got a nebulizer to help me breath a little better, which qualifies me for a synergist shot once a month... thank goodness for insurance as it is a very very spendy shot.
-My mom and I have been busy helping some other moms/kids from the NICU set up a non-profit organization to help people who are going through what we did when me and Kaylee were born and when I was in the hospital for so long.  It is called Our Miracle Babies.  There are some pretty cute pics up of me and other babies on the website: http://www.ourmiraclebabies.com/  We are just starting out and hope to go live soon, but have started helping people with the little money we have so far, and are working on fundraising.  There are great things to come, so keep your eyes/ears open.  And if you have some time to kill, check out the website (and maybe think about donating if you want)
-And finally, we got a Blue Ray player that allows my parents to watch Netflix so we are all getting caught up on "How I Met Your Mother", we are on season 4 :) Hope you enjoy my new pics!

Where did everyone go?

My cousins like pushing me around in my Stander!

8 Months In / 8 Months Out

Today it has been 8 months since we brought our little miracle home from the hospital.  Conner has now officially spent the same number of days home as he did in the hospital - well I suppose it's a little off seeing we had several overnight outpatient visits and several long days in Rochester - buy hey, who's counting.

It just makes me think back to the night we brought him home.  All the emotions that were present that evening.  EXCITMENT that we finally were all sleeping under the same roof in the same house as a family.  COMFORT of being about to sleep in our own bed again.  Being NERVOUS about remembering to give Conner all his medications and get his feedings started.  FEAR of doing something wrong or ending up back in the hospital.  ANXIETY about having to give Conner shots every day.  OPTIMISM of watching Conner finally begin to be a baby and not a patient.  SADNESS of leaving behind all our new friends in the NICU - nurses, doctors, and other families that became part of our family and helped us through some hard times.  JOY in finally getting to put our son to sleep and not have to leave.  LOVE for our family and GRIEF for the daughter we did not get to bring home with us.  We learned a lot those 8 months in the hospital, more than anyone wants to have to learn, and we have learned even more the past 8 months that we have been home.  Our joruney is only starting and I can't wait to see where it takes us.....
how can you not love that smile

Not so scary this Halloween

For those of you who remember, last Halloween was pretty scary for us all.  It was Oct 27, 2010 that Conner gave everyone a scare.  Not to any fault of his own, Conner spent Halloween last year with the scariest costume ever - his belly was cut open, there were lines and tubes everywhere, and candy was the least of our concerns.....

One of the less graphic pictures

Now, Halloween 2011, we have quite the turnaround.  This Halloween was as it should be.  There were pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns, candy and trick-or-treaters, scary movies, and one really cute Cat in The Hat - granted the hat is a little big, but we made due.  What a miracle!

The Pumpkin to the left was going to be Conner costume last year

15 months

Well, I went in for my 15 month check up last week.  I was feelin pretty good about thing, but they took my weight and I had to cringe......  Only 17.5 lbs.  Insert sad face here.  I was really feelin like I was gonna hit 20 lbs AND I think my parents thought I was finally gonna hit the growth charts.  No such luck.  I'm thinkin its cause I'm throwin up so much, not keepin my calories down so to speak.  My head circumference inched up to 38 cm and, on the bright side, my length jumped up to 28 in.  Still sittin at the 0% for all categories, but who really cares.  So I still have some work to go, well maybe more than just some.  Oh well.  Speaking of working, I am still waiting for my teeth to show up.  I am very close, my mom keeps sayin she can see 2 little buds (whatever that means).

I also have some more appointments up in Rochester coming up.  This Thursday my mom and grandma are gonna take me up for an impedance probe/EGD study - I guess we have to stay over night, so dad is joining us Friday for the results.  I have to "go under" for the procedure, not looking forward to that one bit.  Can't wait till I can stop going up there, no offence.  My mom keeps saying "soon we'll be done" but then something comes up.  At least I'm not up there every other week any more.  So maybe she does know what she's talkin about.  That's all for now... oh wait, for all you MN fans.... GO PACK!  HEHEHE :)
